Resident. Widespread throughout Britain as far north as Wester Ross.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded from scattered sites throughout the northern half of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 11-14mm.

Confusion species

Other species of Swammerdamia group are very similar, care should be taken. The larval mine may help with identification.

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Hawthorn, blackthorn and rose spp.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner/web forming. Eggs laid on the foodplant. Larva first mines the leaf, then feed gregariously two or three to a web. Pupates in a white cocoon spun to a twig or leaves.
